Why choose relining in Kensington and Chelsea

CIPP drain relining vs excavation

No excavation required

London properties — terraced houses with small back gardens, basement flats, properties with extensions over drain runs — often make excavation impractical or extremely expensive. CIPP relining accesses the pipe from an existing manhole or rodding eye.

Significantly lower cost

Excavating a short drain run in a London garden typically costs between £2,000 and £5,000 before reinstatement of hard surfaces. CIPP patch relining starts from £300 to £600. Full-run lining costs £600 to £1,500 per metre depending on diameter and access.

50-year liner design life

A correctly installed CIPP liner forms a new structural pipe within the original pipe. It is jointless, smooth-bore, and resistant to root intrusion and further ground movement. The liner design life exceeds 50 years. Every job carries a 10-year guarantee.

Drain relining services

What we offer

Patch repair

Short-section CIPP patch liner for a localised crack, fracture or displaced joint — the fastest and most economical drain repair where the defect is confined to a short section of pipe.

Full-length lining

A continuous liner inserted through the full length of a drain run — used where cracks, root ingress or displaced joints are distributed along the whole run rather than concentrated in one place.

Root intrusion treatment

High-speed rotary root cutting followed by high-pressure jetting to clear the pipe, then CIPP lining to seal all joint gaps that roots entered through — preventing regrowth permanently.

Lateral launch lining

Specialist liner for the connection point between a property lateral drain and the main sewer — the most common failure point in London drainage systems and difficult to access without no-dig techniques.

Pre-lining CCTV survey

Full CCTV survey with written defect report using WRC codes before any relining work — confirms suitability, identifies every defect, and provides the evidence base for a fixed-price repair quote.

10-year guaranteed reline

Every CIPP relining job carried out by Prestige Engineers is backed by a 10-year workmanship and liner guarantee. The liner itself has a design life of 50 or more years when correctly installed.

How we work in Kensington and Chelsea

The CIPP relining process

1

CCTV survey

A camera is inserted from the nearest access point to survey the full drain run. Every defect is logged with its WRC code and distance from the access point. The survey confirms whether the pipe is suitable for lining and identifies the correct liner specification.

2

High-pressure jetting

The drain is cleaned by high-pressure water jetting to remove all debris, grease, silt and loose pipe fragments. Where root intrusion is present, a rotary cutting tool removes the root mass before jetting.

3

Liner insertion

The resin-impregnated felt or fibreglass liner is inserted into the drain using an inversion drum. Compressed air or water pressure turns the liner inside-out as it advances through the pipe, pressing the resin against the pipe wall along the full liner length.

4

Cure

Hot water is circulated through the liner to cure the resin to full structural hardness. This takes 30 to 90 minutes depending on liner diameter and length. UV curing is used for some commercial applications.

5

Post-installation CCTV inspection

A camera is passed through the completed liner to confirm full bonding, correct bore, and no voids or bridging. Any sealed lateral connections are reinstated using a robotic cutter. A written completion report is issued.

Limitations

When relining is not suitable

Fully collapsed pipe

A pipe section where the crown has fallen in and the bore is no longer continuous cannot accept a liner. The collapsed section must be excavated and replaced before the remaining pipe can be relined.

Severely deformed profile

Victorian egg-shaped and oval-profile drains require correctly sized liners. Where deformation is severe — more than 20 to 30 percent of the original bore — relining may not restore adequate flow capacity.

Extreme root intrusion not clearable

Where root mass is so dense that it cannot be cleared by rotary cutting and jetting, the liner cannot be inserted. In these cases partial excavation is required to remove the root mass before lining can proceed.

Very severe joint offset

Where one pipe section has shifted substantially sideways relative to the next — creating a dog-leg rather than a displacement — the liner cannot negotiate the angle. Localised excavation and pipe replacement is required at the offset.

Common questions

Drain relining Kensington and Chelsea: frequently asked

What is drain relining and how does it work in Kensington and Chelsea?

Drain relining uses CIPP (cured-in-place pipe) technology to repair damaged drains without excavation. A resin-saturated felt liner is inserted into the drain from an existing manhole, inflated to press against the pipe wall, and cured using hot water or UV light to form a new structural pipe inside the old one. We carry out drain relining across all of Kensington and Chelsea including Kensington, Chelsea, Notting Hill, Earls Court.

Is drain relining better than digging in Kensington and Chelsea?

In most London properties, yes. Excavating a drain run in a Kensington and Chelsea garden or under a patio typically costs £2,000 to £5,000 before surface reinstatement. CIPP relining costs £300 to £600 for a patch repair and £600 to £1,500 per metre for a full run — and involves no disruption to gardens, driveways or hard surfaces.

How long does drain relining last in Kensington and Chelsea?

A correctly installed CIPP liner has a design life of 50 or more years. Prestige Engineers backs every drain relining job in Kensington and Chelsea with a 10-year workmanship and liner guarantee. The liner is jointless and smooth-bore, so it is resistant to root intrusion and further ground movement.

How much does drain relining cost in Kensington and Chelsea?

Drain relining costs in Kensington and Chelsea depend on the length and diameter of the pipe and the number of defects. A short patch repair costs £300 to £600. A full drain run lining typically costs £600 to £1,500 per metre. A pre-lining CCTV survey (£150 to £250) is included in our fixed-price relining quotes so there are no hidden costs.
